Women's Tennis earns first victory, tops Waubonsee 7-2

Chaps dominate singles play

The College of DuPage women's tennis team defended its home court Thursday, Sept. 18, defeating Waubonsee Community College 7-2 in its first home match of the season.

The Chaps clinched the team win early by taking 5 of 6 singles matches. Semra Jadadic (2-6, 6-4, 10-8) had a gutsy win in No. 2 singles. Lily Caron (6-2, 6-3) took at No. 3. Kathy Johns (6-2, 6-1) continued her early-season momentum notching a win in No. 4 singles. Lexi Olofsson (6-0, 6-1) had no issues in the No. 5 singles match.

Head coach Jim Bowers was excited about his teams performance. "They are a fully funded scholarship team, like all of our regional opponents, and we knew going in that would be a tough match, especially since they are recent regional champions," Bowers said. "This year we have a young team, all freshman, and every one of them is competing hard on the practice court and carrying that work ethic into matches."

DuPage would add two more wins in doubles to close out the 7-2 victory, highlighted by the efforts of duo Johns and Olofsson. (8-1)

The team will be back at COD for their next two matches, with Illinois Valley Community College coming to town on Sept. 24.
