Men's Soccer earns win over McHenry in tight finish

Mendez scores late goal to give Chaps the win

The College of DuPage men's soccer team hosted McHenry County College on Sept. 25, prevailing in a tight finish, 1-0.

The match remained scoreless until the 75th minute, when Jason Hufnagle delivered a perfect pass to Daniel Mendez, who buried the game-winner to secure the victory. Hufnagle also tallied three shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Diego Ochoa was a wall for the Chaps, recording 8 saves on all 8 of McHenry County's attempts.

"Diego was unbelievable, he jumps high, gets to everything, and was phenomenal on crosses. His distribution is excellent, and I love his confidence," head coach Matt Hanna said. "We're really lucky to have two strong goalkeepers in Sam Eaton and Diego Ochoa. Whoever is in there does a really good job for us."

Hanna added, "I'm happy with the win. McHenry has scored a lot of goals this season, and many of their games have been shootouts. That defensive effort was needed. I'm really happy with our first clean sheet of the season."
