The #4 nationally ranked College of DuPage Women's Volleyball program hosted nationally ranked #5 Dallas College North Lake on Thursday evening as the 2025 Women's Volleyball Chap Invite got underway.
If it was any indication on how the play will be for the rest of the Chap Invite, the fans were treated to something really special on Thursday evening. Two national heavyweights went toe to toe with one another last night as the Lady Chaparrals defeated Dallas North Lake Blazers in straight sets 3-0.
With a seesaw first set that saw a total of 62 points combined the Lady Chaps inked out a first set thriller that set the tone for the rest of the match. Down 15-20 late in the first set the Lady Chaps went on a run that tied the game at 23 a piece. The back and forth affair saw each team with multiple set point attempts only to be thwarted by one another. As the point totals grew so did the intensity of the first set. Each team would not give an inch and would battle for loose balls and first touches. Both teams defenses were stellar through the match, but with DuPage up 31-30 an attack error by the Blazers gave COD's team the first set match.
Much of the same occurred in the second set as both the Chaparrals and the Blazers would go back an forth with no more than two or three point runs at a time.
Francesca Brandonisio led DuPage with 24 digs defensively, she also was able to have multiple service aces as she hit several rockets at the Dallas North Lake players many were just too fast to control and resulted in shanks and difficult balls to transition offensively. The Lady Chaps took a commanding lead winning set two by a score of 25-23.
Both
Megan Daca and
Claire Rambasek took control during set three as Daca's attack was .286 and led the team and Rambasek had her serve on point leading the team with 4 service aces on the night. It was too much for the North Lake Blazers to combat as they fell in the third set 25-21 losing the match in three straight sets.
College of DuPage Women's Volleyball now hosts multiple teams for the 2025 Chap Invite as the Lady Chaparrals play Joliet Junior College at 1pm on Friday and comeback at 5pm and play Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute out of Hudson, North Carolina.
