The College of DuPage women's soccer team continued its push toward the postseason with a pair of matches last week, falling 1-0 to Madison College on Oct. 14 before earning a 2-2 draw against Moraine Valley Community College on sophomore night Oct. 16.
The Chaparrals traveled to Madison, Wisconsin, for their first match of the week and created scoring opportunities throughout the contest but were unable to find the back of the net. DuPage finished with eight shots on goal, with
Mariana Reyes-Sanchez putting two attempts on target.
Brooke Cutlip played the first half in goal and recorded one save, while
Ariana Hernandez handled the second half and finished with four saves.
DuPage returned home two days later to celebrate its sophomores before facing Moraine Valley. The Chaparrals took a 2-0 lead before the Cyclones scored twice in the second half to earn the draw.
Katie Castillo and
Julia Gonzalez scored for DuPage, while
Nadia Mandujano recorded an assist. Cutlip and Hernandez each made two saves as the Chaparrals split goalkeeping duties once again.
Despite the draw, the Chaparrals demonstrated their offensive potential, continuing a season in which they have scored 41 goals. DuPage has scored multiple goals in seven of its 15 matches, including four contests in which the team recorded at least seven goals.
Reyes-Sanchez leads the Chaparrals with 12 goals, followed by
Sophia Enriquez with nine and Gonzalez with eight.
The Chaparrals will now turn their attention to postseason competition, traveling to Joliet Junior College on Friday, Oct. 23, for the NJCAA Region 4 Women's Soccer Championship. DuPage will face the Wolves after falling 1-0 in the teams' previous meeting on Sept. 26 in Glen Ellyn.
With the regional championship ahead, the Chaparrals will look to turn their offensive production into a postseason result.
