Returning back from New York, the College of DuPage men's volleyball program (5-0) hosted the NAIA Trinity Christian College Trolls on Tuesday, Feb. 3 inside PEC Arena. The Chaparrals went back-and-forth in the see-saw affair but came away in crucial late-set moments to secure a 3-0 sweep; 28-26, 25-18 and 25-23.
COD held a comfortable lead early in Set One thanks to solid play from
Adam Janowiak,
Brayden Tejeda and
Matthew Pemberton in front row. A
Jahir Lopez service ace was the exclamation point of a rally that would start to fade because of a Trolls comeback. TCC forced extra volleyball in Set One but Janowiak's set-clinching kill gave COD a 1-0 lead.
DuPage was able to coast through Set Two, 25-18 with healthy contributions from
Coady Seidler,
Luc Neczek and
Lance Mueller.
The Trolls would keep it a much closer contest in Set Three, refusing to go down without a fight. DuPage was able to hang on down the stretch run with
Danny Overlin leading the charge. After a 25-23 set win, COD secured the sweep over TCC and move to 6-0 on the season.
Janowiak led with eight digs and two blocks on the contest; while
Nicholas Ockrim logged seven assists, and Neczek an additional two blocks. Janowiak hit a blistering .600 mark with Tejeada's .316 total being the second-best Chaparral performance.
COD continues the campaign on Thursday night at Governors State University in University Park.
