The College of DuPage flag football team traveled to Hammond, Indiana, to face the Lions of Purdue Northwest on March 21. After a scoreless opening quarter, DuPage trailed 6-0 at halftime. Purdue Northwest pulled away with an 18-point third quarter and added another score to hand the Chaparrals a 30-6 defeat, despite DuPage holding the edge in total yardage, 250-235.
DuPage leaned on its ground game, amassing 189 rushing yards at 6.5 yards per carry. The Chaparrals' lone score also came on the ground on a run from Jalene Sanchez in the 4th quarter. Aneibi Farias Olaguez and Sanchez each rushed for 53 yards to lead the Chaps, while Oliwia Szprygacz added 26 yards on two carries.
DuPage punter Molly Rose averaged 29.3 yards per punt, including a long of 44 yards, helping the Chaps with field position throughout the contest.
Defensively, Farias Olaguez led the team with nine flag pulls, including two for loss, and added a sack to cap a well-balanced two-way performance. Kamila Raczka recorded four flag pulls, two for loss, and a sack. Destynee McCoy also finished with four flag pulls, including two for loss, while Alyssa Elizondo added three flag pulls.
The Chaparrals are slated to travel to Florida next, with stops in Lake City and Daytona Beach for games on March 28 and March 30.
