The College of DuPage men's tennis team traveled to Illinois Valley Community College on April 8 to take on the Eagles in Oglesby. The Chaparrals fell 8-1, moving to 3-2 on the season.
Head coach Jim Bowers recapped the day and the difficult playing conditions, stating, "It was a very challenging day playing against a strong team that is contending for the regional championship. The wind was a constant struggle for everyone and continued throughout the entire day, averaging around 40 mph."
Brandon Dumbell secured the lone win for the Chaparrals at No. 1 singles, earning a hard-fought 6-7 (7-9), 6-4 victory. The sophomore prevented DuPage from being shut out, and Bowers came away impressed.
"I haven't seen anything like this in a long time," Bowers said. "Brandon came up with so many big shots on important points, not just once, but he fought off about five set points with his never-say-die feisty spirit. He was diving, stretching, falling, and tumbling multiple times throughout the match."
DuPage will travel to Moraine Valley Community College on April 10, with a start time slated for 3 p.m.
