The College of DuPage football team improved to 2-0 on the season with a dominant 49-2 victory over Millikin University JV on Aug. 29 at Frank M. Lindsay Field in Decatur, Ill.

The Chaps wasted little time taking control, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter to take a 21-0 lead. Damari Jones opened the scoring with a 52-yard touchdown run before Mark Washington-Mellon added a 7-yard rushing touchdown. Yven Quenum capped the quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run.

DuPage added two more touchdowns in the second quarter, with Gavin Sanders scoring on a 5-yard run and Justus Byrd finding the end zone on a 5-yard rush to give the Chaps a 35-0 halftime advantage.

Jones added his second touchdown of the afternoon early in the third quarter, breaking free for a 21-yard score. Jayvion Hassell later scored on a 12-yard run to push the DuPage lead to 49-0.

The Chaps finished the afternoon with 156 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns on just 24 attempts. Jones led the way with 73 yards and two touchdowns, including runs of 52 and 21 yards. Quenum added 30 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Hassell finished with 28 yards and a score.

DuPage's defense also turned in a strong performance, limiting Millikin to 102 total yards and 30 rushing yards. The Chaps recorded three interceptions, with Zachary Weatherspoon, Byrd and Marquez Dabney each coming away with a pick. DuPage also recorded three sacks and 10 tackles for loss.

The Chaps held Millikin scoreless through the first three quarters before the Big Blue scored a safety in the fourth quarter for the only points of the afternoon.

DuPage will return to action next week in Brighton, Michigan when they battle LEAD Prep. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00am central time.
