Anthony Fumagalli's two-run single capped a five-run third as the Chaparrals defeated the North Central College JV 9-6 in college baseball Thursday afternoon.
 
T.J. Jaros led with three hits and Fumagalli, Jack Howard, Mike Wagner and Nico Gutierrez all had two hits for the Chaps, now 24-18-1 overall. Their next game is Sunday afternoon at McHenry County College.
 
The Chaparrals, who never trailed, grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first, thanks to Mike Wagner's RBI triple and Corey Vondra's run-scoring single. Their five-run third came on four hits and the Chaps took advantage of two North Central errors.
 
Leading 8-0, the host Cardinals narrowed the gap with a six-run sixth, but it wasn't enough.
 
Gutierrez doubled to join Wagner for the Chaps' two extra-base hits.
 
Starter Jonny Vesevick struck out six in just four innings of work.
