Box Score The sixth-ranked Chaps suffered a hard-luck loss on Sophomore Night, losing 3-2 to Harper on Thursday night.

The loss will in all probability send the Chaps (19-12 overall) on the road in the NJCAA Region 4 semifinals, where they will face Madison on Thursday night. The finals are Oct. 30 at the top seed with a berth in the NJCAA championship on the line.

The visiting Hawks won the five-set match (22-25, 17-25, 25-18, 25-22, 18-16) in a long, drawn-out match. In the fifth set, both teams had extended leads — the Chaps led 10-6, and the Hawks led 12-10 before five ties set up the final surge. Tied at 16-16, the Hawks prevailed.

Tolis Koskinaris said. "Happy with the effort, but the result wasn't what we wanted. When you have a 2-0 lead, you figure you're in control, but tonight was a five-set match and they got the job done.''

The first two sets pushed the Chaps in control-mode. They took the lead for good in the first at 21-19 after trailing 16-9.

In the second they led from the outset.

Harper controlled most of the third set, and COD answered back in the fourth. The Chaps led 21-18, but the Hawks regained momentum with a 7-1 surge entering the fifth set.
Alyssa Fountain led the Chaps in kills with 20 and
Jessica Juerke followed with 12.
Hanah Friel led in assists with 37.
Vanessa Silva led in services aces with four. On the block, both
Olivia Witek and
Emily DeBlecourt had four block assists.
