Coach Jason Hyatt's golf team opened its spring portion of the 2020-21 season Friday with a dual meet against Judson at the Golf Club of Illinois.
 
Judson won the dual with a 52, followed by the Chaps' 55.
 
Sam Gerry won the event with an 8-over-par 72 on the par-72, 6,591-yard course. Elias Finazzo was third (83), followed by Gabe Brock T6, 86, Matt McColaugh (10^th, 90) and Jack Turner 12^th (99).
 
Said Hyatt: "The guys battled some wet/windy conditions today.  Even though we struggled at the start and didn't come out on top, we have already identified a few things that we will shore up for our next event.  The guys didn't give up and I am proud with how we kept our composure.  Our course management needs to be a little better and that will come with a little more preparation at our next practice.  Sam captured his first collegiate win and I am looking forward to getting the full squad in play on Tuesday at St. Francis!"
