Box Score A 4-0 halftime deficit left the Chaparrals looking for some positives in the final 45 minutes of play Monday night against Waubonsee College.
Â
"We knew that we didn't play particularly well,'' said head coach
Zac Ludwig. "We took it as a challenge to play soccer and find a way to feel good about the night.
Â
And despite suffering a 4-1 loss to the Chiefs, the Chaps outscored their opponent and toughened up on defense.
Â
"You're never happy with a loss, but we had to find something tangible against a pretty good team'' he said. "We did it. We played solid defense, and struck back with our best offensive opportunity.''
Â
With five minutes remaining,
Lesly Mora controlled the ball on the left side and well into the Chiefs' end. She then deftly found teammate
Fran Ottolino, who was on the receiving end and ripped a shot that lofted up-and-over for the goal.
Â
"Prettiest play of the night,'' Ludwig said. "A great opportunity and we were able to cash it in.''
Â
The Chaps, now 0-2 overall, are at Lake County on Wednesday.
