Box Score Speed, timing and a well-placed kick made all the difference in the Chaps' 6-2 win over visiting Elgin in Region 4 women's soccer Friday afternoon at Bjarne Ullsvik Stadium.
Â
Morgan Clifford and
Lesly Mora each scored two goals, and
Estefanny Ruiz and
AnnMarie Ahrens each scored as the Chaps raced to a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Â
Ruiz got the scoring going when she secured the ball inside a scrum in the 13
th minute and gave COD a 1-0 lead. Then, Clifford used her speed to break free down the left side of the field and one-time a shot in 23
rd minute.
Â
Mora scored each of her goals on penalty kicks late in the first half and the Chaps had what seemed to be an insurmountable lead.
Â
"Lesly's goals were set up nicely by putting ourselves in great position for quality shots, much like how Estefanny got hers,'' Chaps head coach
Zac Ludwig said. "Morgan's speed is dangerous and when we can find her, she's a threat to score. And on AnnMarie's goal, we did a nice job of creating offense off our corners.''
Â
Ahrens' corner kick created a goal for herself when bounced in and past the goal line in the 68
th minute.
Â
The six goals marked a season-high for the Chaps, who improved to 2-5 overall. They'll next play Wednesday afternoon when they play host to Madison.
