The Chaps earned a victory from No. 3 singles Alexandra Russell in team competition at the NJCAA Division III women's tennis championship.
Â
Russell earned the victory over Erin Innerarity of Hudson Valley 6-2, 6-4 in the first round of consolation play, before dropping a 6-0, 6-1 match in the consolation finals.
Â
Russell earned the only victory for the Chaps for the tourney.

Coach Jim Bowers
"We had many challenges (Friday) that didn't go our way, still it was a very positive day and a positive experience to compete at the national level.
Â
Emily (Smith), drew the No. 1 seed and lost in straight sets. She then lost 7-6, 7-6 in her final match.
Â
At No. 2, Tyler (Gray) took a quick lead and was up 3-1, but her opponent re-captured the lead at 6-3 5-1, but Tyler fought way back to 4-5 after fixing her serve and consistency issues, but couldn't find the strength to end it and lost 6-4. Tyler finished her tourney with a 7-5, 6-3 loss.
Â
At No. 3 Sasha lost 6-1, 6-1 to a very physical player and was a little too difficult to overcome. She bounced back with our only win with a 6-4, 6-3 decision, before her consolation final loss.
Â
At No. 4, Ash was involved in a very entertaining match to watch with long rallies and net play. She reached the third set, a first for anyone this season, but ran out of time and energy to lose the final set 6-3. Ash then finished the tourney with a 6-4, 6-1 loss.
Â
In doubles, we drew no seeds and both teams got the best of us. At No. 1, we struggled finding answers in a 6-4, 6-4 loss. Their tourney ended in a 7-5, 7-6 loss.
Â
At No. 1, Piper and Russell played a tall, dominating hitting team and mixed it up but fell short 6-3, 6-4.Â
