LEBANON — Defending national champion College of DuPage made the most of competing in the sun Saturday at the McKendree Invitational.
 
The women's team qualified 13 athletes in 10 events for next month's NJCAA D3 national championship with Lillian Buzani winning the 5,000 meters and the men's team had nine individuals meet the standard in seven events.
 
"Each meet, we want to knock out time and distances at qualifying standards and we were successful today,'' head coach Robert Cervenka said. "Kiara (Carter) now owns the top times in the country in the 100 and 400, and Morgan Clifford reached qualifying times in both hurdles events.
 
Buzani won the 5000 in 19 minutes, 11.95 seconds. All-American pole vaulter Mya Mangan set a career-high 10-feet, 8-inch vault to win the event.
 
The women's team finished fourth in the events with 43 points.
 
For the men, who finished third with 74 points, Josh Rivers won the long jump at 6.90 meters. Diego Villalobos improved his qualifying time in the 100 (11.11 seconds).
 
In the 5000, Axel Huerta was second in 16:25.05 and Caleb DeBoer was fifth (16:45.50).
 
The Chaps are scheduled to compete Wednesday at the Loras Invite in Dubuque, Iowa.
