Late push costs Chaps vs. Prairie State

Freshman guard Adyn McGinley led the Chaparrals with a 20-point, 10-rebound and four-assist effort, but visiting Prairie State grabbed the lead late and held off the Chaps, 74-71 in Region 4 men's basketball Saturday afternoon.

COD (10-5, 6-5 Region 4) steps outside of region play this week, beginning Monday at home against North Central JV. Tip is 7 p.m.

The Chaps trailed 7-0 to open the game, but answered back and secured their best lead with less than a minute to go in the half, 38-27, on a McGinley basket that capped an 8-0 run. McGinley scored 10 of 20 in the opening half as the Chaps shot 44 percent from the floor on 14 of 32 shooting and 7 of 7 from the line.

But PSC secured the win after Daniel Mordi scored all 21 of his points in the second half. Devin Vent led all scorers with 22 points.

The game was tied at 68 on COD's Ramone Enis' basket with 3:10 left. Mordi then answered with his final basket of the game and the Pioneers led for good with 2:22 remaining.

COD struggled from outside, hitting just 5 of 29 on 3-pointers for the game.

Sophomore Braylen Meredith added 16 points (7 of 14 FGs) and Payton Moore was the only other Chap in double figures with 11, thanks to his three 3s.
