The College of DuPage women's soccer team is preparing to host the Region IV quarterfinal on Nov. 2 at noon. The Chaps (10-2-2) earned a first round bye and the No. 4 seed in the regional tournament with their regular season performance and will host Morton College in the quarterfinal. The winner will advance to the Region IV Tournament semifinal, which will take place on Nov. 5.
The Chaps are led in scoring by freshman midfielder
Carolina Carreon, who has netted 11 goals this season. Sophomore midfielder
Mariel Lara ranks second for DuPage with seven goals. Carreron and freshman forward
Sophia Enriquez share the team lead in assists with four apiece. DuPage also features a goalkeeping tandem of
Elizabeth Fried and
Brooke Cutlip, who have combined for an impressive .865 save percentage on the season.
Chaps assistant coach
Mike Bona reflected on what the team's success means for the women's soccer program, stating, "Coach Hanna and I have worked hard to bring both programs back to the historic standard of past COD teams. With out first-round bye and top-four regional finish, we're getting closer to that standard."
The coaching staff and players aren't taking the opportunity lightly. "We're excited to continue pushing for a regional finals appearance and a trip to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament," Bona said.
DuPage will look to continue its momentum and hopes to see a packed house at Bjarne Ullsvik Stadium this weekend. Admission is free, and kickoff against the Panthers is scheduled for noon.
