The College of DuPage women's basketball team traveled to the city's southside on Nov. 25 to take on the Prairie State College Pioneers. A ten-point Chaps lead at halftime was erased down the stretch, in part due to numerous fouls, and the Pioneers rallied with a high-scoring fourth quarter to secure a close 73-66 PSC win.
Both teams were at 15 points after the first ten minutes, but
Ayaani Gusman's performance from beyond the arc pulled DuPage out to a 38-28 advantage at the break.
PSC chipped into the deficit in the third quarter, barely outscoring the Chaps in the period by five. Fouls and giveaways - PSC attempted 31 free throws and caused 15 turnovers - allowed the Pioneers' momentum to carry the home team through the fourth quarter. DuPage could only muster 15 in the quarter to PSC's 27 points.
Gusman ended the night as the highest-scoring player on either squad with 24 points; she also chipped in four rebounds.
Erin Brown's double-double kept her busy on both ends with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Lexi Lopez led the Chaps with six assists. Brown and
Saniyya Harvey each had multiple steals.
COD (1-5) returns to PEC Arena on Dec. 2 for the first leg of a basketball doubleheader between the Chaps and the Black Hawk College Braves. The women tip-off at 5pm.
