A 25-point third quarter wasn't enough for the College of DuPage women's basketball team on Tuesday night; the Chaparrals dropped their home contest against the Black Hawk College Braves, 45-62.
Ayaani Gusman made her first of three three-pointers early to pair with first-quarter baskets from
Erin Brown,
Lexi Lopez and
Aylin Lagunas. Gusman sank two free throws in the opening frame as well to bring DuPage's total to eleven points.
Scoring woes plagued the Chaps in the second quarter. At the half, COD trailed 36-13.
Kristin Ison's halftime adjustments saw the Chaps explode to the best quarter from either program in the contest. Successful Gusman and
Saniyya Harvey threes sparked something in the Chaps. Stronger defense and Braves turnovers led to more buckets from the duo alongside
Jamie Hasemann.
Despite thriving in the third quarter, the offense slowed down in the fourth as the Braves controlled much of the final frame. Gusman's final three-pointer brought her total to 20 points on the night, the most for any Chaparral.
COD (1-6) travels to Waubonsee Community College to take on the Chiefs at 5:30pm on Thursday, Dec. 4. Last year's 68-46 COD win snapped an 11-game streak for WCC.
