The College of DuPage women's basketball program couldn't extend its win streak to three-in-a-row on Thursday, Feb. 12; sustaining an 85-59 loss to the Kankakee Community College Cavaliers inside PEC Arena.
KCC scored the first five points of the contest before an
Ayaani Gusman three-pointer sparked the Chaps' shooting; as
Jamie Hasemann and
Lexi Lopez each made multiple shots from deep in the opening frame. Paired with a nice turnaround jumper by
Erin Brown, DuPage kept it close after ten minutes, trailing 18-25.
The Cavaliers reacted accordingly, starting the second quarter off with a 13-2 run before two more Gusman three-balls chipped into the deficit. At the half, KCC led 51-29.
Erin Brown scored the first nine DuPage points in the third quarter, including an old-fashioned three-point play. The rest of the offense was stymied, except for a good free throw from each of Brown, Hasemann and
Cailey Salerno.
DuPage was able to outscore Kankakee by a point, 18-17, in the final quarter, but the lead was enough for the Cavaliers to hang on to a Region 4 victory.Â
Gusman's 16 points led COD, while both Lopez and Brown netted 13 apiece. Hasemann and Salerno ended with seven each, while
Aneibi Farias Olaguez sunk a free throw to total the DuPage offense at 59.
COD (8-20) will honor their sophomores on Tuesday, Feb. 17 before a 5 p.m. Region 4 contest against South Suburban College. The Chaparrals have won the last three matchups with the Bulldogs.Â
