Sophomore
Braylen Meredith scored a game-high 27 points and surpassed the 1,000-point mark in his career as the Chaparrals won going away in an 81-68 Sophomore Night victory over Madison in Region 4 men's basketball Thursday.
COD (21-9, 14-9 Region 4), which won its third straight game, now awaits the Region 4 tourney announcement Sunday.
The opening round begins Thursday night.
Meredith scored 11 first-half points and teammate
Charles Farrell added nine in the first half as COD finished on a 20-6 run in the final 7:03 and led 40-34 at the break.
Madison (18-9, 16-7) got only as close as five points of the lead, and COD led by double digits for the final 7:47 after
Greg Strong hit his second 3-pointer of the night.
Meredith became just the seventh Chap in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark with a 3-pointer that pushed COD up 70-53 with 5:30 to go.
He now has 1,009 and needs 21 to reach the top five all-time. Jim Belanger is COD's all-time leading scorer with 1,307 (1969-71). Meredith also stands No. 5 in free throws with 213.
Farrell added 14 points,
Adyn McGinley 12 and Strong 10 for the victory.

Greg Strong ranks second in COD 3-pointers with 131 and needs just three more to surpass Ryan Tyszkiewicz's record of 133 set in 2006-08 … Ben Zielinksi has scored 69 3-pointers, ranking No. 9 all-time. He needs just one to reach No. 8 (70, Dave Kies, 1994-96).
