COD and host Oakton met Monday afternoon in Region 4 men's tennis with the Owls holding off the Chaps, 5-4.
 
Brandon Dumbell set the tone early with a 7-6, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles. Patrick Kozbial won a tight match at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 7-6.
 
Pablo Espinosa secured the third win in singles, earning a 6-2, 7-6 victory at No. 4
 
In doubles action, Kozbial and Gio Velasco earned a hard-fought victory at No. 2, 8-2.
 
Head coach Jim Bowers noted improvement across the board with his young Chaparrals.
 
"It was great to see Patrick and Gio progress to the point of earning victory,'' Bowers said. "They're making returns and learning how to set up their partners who can poach and put the ball away. Very encouraging to see them build their game and find success.''
 
The Chaparrals (1-4 overall) returns home Friday when they take on Waubonsee. First serve is 4 p.m.
