DuPage defeats Moraine Valley 5-4

The College of DuPage men's tennis team traveled to Palos Hills on April 10 to face Moraine Valley Community College, edging out a 5-4 victory to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Brandon Dumbell led the Chaparrals with a dominant performance at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Giovanni Velasco followed with a strong showing at No. 2 singles, winning 6-0, 6-4. Pablo Espinosa secured a key point at No. 5 singles, battling to a 6-6, 7-5, 6-0 win.

In doubles play, the Chaps claimed two of the three matches. Dumbell and Nicholas Williams teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, while Velasco and Alex Cook earned an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Head coach Jim Bowers praised his team's effort, saying, "I'm happy to see that Alex Cook and Nicholas Williams are starting to figure out their doubles struggles with slow starts. They came out of the gate with aggressive baseline play that set up their winning shots. It was very nice to see some other Chaparrals step up with a beautiful display of strategy and execution. Gio Velasco came out with a sense of focus and purpose. Pablo Espinosa also showed true grit and determination, mixing in lobs and soft-handed drop shots to get his opponent moving. His win sealed the team victory."

DuPage will return to action on April 14 when they travel to McHenry County College to take on the Scots.
