The College of DuPage women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season after shutting out Elgin Community College 8-0 at Bjarne Ullsvik Stadium on Aug. 27.

The Chaps scored early and often against the Spartans, led by Mariana Reyes-Sanchez's outstanding five-goal performance. Elina Velasco added two goals of her own, while Carolina Carreon scored the eighth and final goal.

Velasco opened the scoring in the fourth minute on an assist from Samantha Santiago. Ten minutes later, Reyes-Sanchez scored her first of five goals with an assist from Velasco. Reyes-Sanchez struck again just two minutes later, this time off a pass from Carreon. The sophomore completed her first-half hat trick in the 36th minute on a setup from Julia Gonzalez.

After taking a 4-0 advantage into halftime, the Chaps were not satisfied. Velasco scored in the 50th minute unassisted, while Reyes-Sanchez scored her fourth six minutes later on a pass from Carreon. Reyes-Sanchez completed her five-goal performance with an unassisted goal, followed by Carreon's goal in the 67th minute to cap the scoring.

It was a quiet day for the Chaps' goalkeepers, with Brook Cutlip recording two saves and Haydee Manriquez adding one save. The Chaps' backline, made up of Molly Rose, Abigeal Gallagher, Aneya Villarreal, Fernanda Gallegos and Sophia Snow, held off the Spartan attack throughout the contest.

Now sitting at 2-0 on the season, DuPage will look to continue its winning ways on Aug. 30 when it hosts Schoolcraft College at 11 a.m.
