Box Score SPRINGFIELD — Jack Howard made sure coach Bobby Wilson received his first collegiate win, clubbing a ninth-inning grand slam in the Chaparrals' 15-8 win over host Lincoln Land Community College in nonconference baseball Saturday afternoon.
 
The Chaps, now 1-2, are off until they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for their annual spring break trip. They'll play Penn State Mont Alto in a doubleheader March 3 that begins a stretch of nine games in five days.
 
"We bounced back today after losing a pair of tough games,'' Wilson said. "We learned a lot. When we put pressure on our opponent, good things happen. On the mound, our guys have to pound the zone more, but we're going to get there. All in all, a good way to wrap up the weekend.''
 
The Chaps produced 15 hits with Brent McDowell, Jack Oberli, Bobby O'Donnell and Corey Vondra joining Howard with extra-base hits (all doubles).
 
Both Oberli and Howard went 3-for-4. Howard totaled five RBI and Oberil had three.
 
McDowell and O'Donnell also had multiple hits.
 
On the mound, LHP Jonny Vesevick went 5 innings and struck out three with one walk and only one earned run allowed.
