The College of DuPage baseball team battled through a demanding schedule during the final weeks of the season, showing flashes of explosive offense while finishing the year with a 16-28 overall record.
One of the team's biggest wins of the season came on April 13, when the Chaparrals outslugged Joliet Junior College 13-11 on the road.
Andrew Speh delivered a monster performance with two home runs and five RBIs, while
Cullen Kleinsasser blasted a ninth-inning homer to extend the lead. COD totaled 14 hits in the win, and
JB Wies shut the door late with two strong innings in relief.
After a difficult stretch against Triton College and Bryant & Stratton, the Chaparrals rebounded with a split at Milwaukee Area Technical College on April 18. In the opener,
Porter Olson dominated on the mound with 11 strikeouts, while
Rocco Luciano,
Hudson Williams, Kleinsasser, and Speh all contributed offensively in the 4-2 victory.
The offensive fireworks continued on April 20 as COD defeated Moraine Valley Community College 19-12 in a wild road contest.
Wilson Terrutty led the charge with four RBIs, including a three-run homer in the third inning. The Chaps exploded for five runs in the ninth inning to pull away, highlighted by key late contributions from Speh,
Matthew Betancourt, Luciano, Terrutty, and Williams. Anthony Filppo earned the win on the mound.
Back at home on April 21, COD once again defeated Joliet Junior College, this time by a 12-6 final. Speh stayed red hot with two more home runs, while Williams tied the game with a solo shot before the Chaps erupted for six runs in the seventh inning.
Rocco Damato delivered one of the game's biggest hits with a two-run single during the rally, and
Nick Konopiots earned the win in relief.
The Chaparrals followed with a home doubleheader sweep of Highland Community College on April 23. In game one, Kleinsasser drove in four runs while Williams added a two-run homer in a 7-4 victory.
Carson Miller earned the win after allowing just one unearned run over four innings.
Kleinsasser turned in one of the season's best offensive performances in game two, blasting two home runs and driving in five runs during a dominant 16-6 victory.
Parker Friend earned the win in relief as the Chaps completed the sweep.
COD faced a closing stretch against several regional opponents, including Madison College, Sauk Valley, Kankakee, Rock Valley, Moraine Valley, Oakton, and Joliet. Although the season ended in Region IV Tournament play, the Chaparrals continued competing hard.
