The College of DuPage baseball team had a busy weekend, completing a doubleheader versus Waubonsee Community College on March 28, followed by single games against Olive-Harvey College on March 29 and the College of Lake County on March 30.
Doubleheader vs. Waubonsee March 28
In the opening game of the weekend, DuPage defeated the Chiefs 7-3. The Chaps collected 10 hits, led by two apiece from
Devin Kraft and
Andrew Speh.
Wilson Terrutty delivered the key swing of the game, smashing a three-run shot to center field in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory.
Nick Konopiots pitched a complete seven innings, recording five strikeouts.
In game two, the Chaparrals again produced at the plate, tallying double-digit hits in a 13-7 win.
JD Cumbee went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs. Speh added multiple hits for the second straight game, while Terrutty continued his big day with another home run to center field, finishing with five RBIs.
Parker Friend started on the mound, tossing four innings with three strikeouts.
Alex Ingram earned the win, pitching three innings and striking out five.
Following the sweep, head coach
Pat Leahy praised his team's effort.
"Very proud of how the guys played today. A few gritty performances on the mound led the way for us. Konopiots, Ingram and Friend all made it easy for our offense to get the job done. We will look to build off of these wins," said Leahy.
vs. Olive-Harvey March 29
After surrendering five runs in the bottom of the first, DuPage responded by tying the game 5-5 in the top of the third. The Chaps then exploded for four runs in the sixth to take a 9-5 lead. Olive-Harvey answered with one run in the sixth and added two runs in both the eighth and ninth innings to edge DuPage 10-9.
Terrutty and Speh again recorded multiple hits, with Speh driving in two runs.
Max Kalish logged the majority of the innings on the mound, throwing four innings and recording two strikeouts.
vs. College of Lake County March 30
Eight runs in the first two innings helped DuPage hold off the Lancers in Glen Ellyn, as the Chaps totaled 13 hits in a 9-7 victory. The Lancers scored six unanswered runs late, but
JB Wies came on to finish the game and secure the win.
Nathan McBroom led the offense with three hits in five at-bats.
JD Cumbee,
Ben White,
Matthew Betancourt, and
Devin Kraft each added two hits.
Carson Miller earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing just one run.
DuPage now sits at .500 on the season at 9-9 and returns to the road April 1 at Kankakee Community College before traveling to Harper College for a doubleheader on April 3.
