The College of DuPage baseball team defeated Kankakee Community College 2-1 in walk-off fashion on April 1. Devin Kraft delivered the game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th inning, scoring pinch runner Kyle Boma to seal the victory.
Both sides received excellent pitching performances throughout the afternoon. Alex Ingram earned the win after entering in extra innings and working out of a volatile bases-loaded situation to keep the game tied. Porter Olson impressed in the starting role, recording seven strikeouts while allowing just four hits across more than nine innings pitched.
Matthew Bettancourt paced the Chaparrals with two hits. Kraft and Andrew Speh each recorded one hit and one RBI, while Cullen Kleinsasser and Nathan McBroom also added hits for DuPage.
Head coach Pat Leahy praised the team's effort following the win.
"Just a gritty win today. Another day of being very proud of the way our guys played," Leahy said. "They were able to battle some tough conditions and get the job done. Two big pitching performances from Porter Olson and Alex Ingram allowed us to play for one run at the end. It was a good win to build off of going into the weekend."
The Chaparrals are slated to host Bryant & Stratton on April 4 for a home doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., field conditions permitting.
