MEET RESULTS

Four Chaparrals know that they will be competing in this spring's NJCAA Division III outdoor track and field championship.
 
Saturday's indoor opener at Gately Center in Chicago allowed the Chaps to not only reach indoor national standards, but also outdoors. Joshua Rivers qualified for the outdoor meet in three events, along with Lillian Buzani, Belle Adduci and Mya Mangan.
 
"For several of our athletes, it was the first time competing in a collegiate meet,'' Chaps head coach Robert Cervenka said. "While we didn't have anyone reach a qualifying time for indoor nationals, Joshua, Lillian, Belle and Mya earned their way to the outdoor meet and that's quite an accomplishment to knock those out in January.''
 
Rivers met the standard in the long jump, placing third at 6.7 meters (21 feet, 11 3/4). He cleared 1.9 m (6-2 3/4) in the high jump for third and ran 23.32 seconds in the 200.
 
Buzani ran the mile in 5:33.22 and qualified for the 1,500 based on conversion to the metric mile. Her time in the mile converts to a 5:08.53 1500-m time and qualifies by nearly 30 seconds.
 
Adduci ran the 800 in 2:35.34 and Mangan cleared 2.75 m (9-0 1/4) in the pole vault.
