Freshman pole vaulter
Mya Mangan cleared an indoor personal-best vault of 9 feet, 10 ½ inches and qualified for next month's NJCAA meet while competing Friday at North Central's Slick Invitational.
Pole vaulter Mya Mangan qualified for next month's
NJCAA indoor championship.
Mangan joins distance ace
Lillian Buzani (3000 m) as the only Chaps making the trip to Pittsburg, Kan., on March 4-5.
Friday's meet was the regular-season finale for the indoor portion and the Chaps made sure it was an evening worthwhile as mid-distance runners
Anthony Eddy and
Spensir Stec and long jumper
John Sassan qualified for the NJCAA D3 outdoor meet this spring.
"We've had a productive month of meets where we have qualified a number of athletes for May,'' head coach
Robert Cervenka said. "No doubt we want to defend our national titles for men and women and we're on our way.''
For the women, sprinter
Kiara Carter placed seventh in the 200 in 26.74 seconds and the 4 x 400 relay team of
Alexandra Ochab,
Morgan Clifford,
Paulina Stachura, and Carter placed second in 4:18.39.
Buzani improved her mile time to 5:25.32, converting to 5:01.21 in the 1500, some 37 seconds faster than the D3 outdoor standard.
For the men, Eddy and Stec reached the outdoor standard in the 800, with Eddy running 2:02.87 and Stec right behind at 2:03.68.
Sassan became the third long jumper to make the standard with his 20 feet, 5 inch effort, good for eighth place on the night.
Placing for the Chaps were
Josh Rivers (third in the long jump and sixth in the high jump) and long jumper
Diego Villalobos, who finished fifth.
