TROY, N.Y. — Alexandra Ochab captured a national title and all-round whiz
Akira Lebron picked up points in three events — and five total — as the Chaps rest in second place in the team total at the NJCAA Track and Field Championships held at Hudson Valley Community College.
Ochab, who earlier in the week was awarded the athletic department "Chappy Award" for most outstanding female athlete, won the long jump at 5.35 m (17 feet, 6 ¾ inches). Lebron finished sixth in the event (4.92 m) and capped the day by finishing second in the javelin (32.35 m) after tying for fourth in the high jump (1.44 m) with teammate
Paulina Stachura.
The Chaps have 59 points and trail front-runner RC Gloucester, which leads with 78.
The preliminary rounds found several outstanding efforts from the Chaps, with
Kiara Carter and
Morgan Clifford each reaching the finals in two events. Carter ran the 100 in 12.69 and the 200 in 26.44 to reach the finals, while Clifford will compete Saturday in the 10 hurdles (17.75) and 400 hurdles (1:11.98).
Lillian Buzani (2:29.55) and
Belle Adduci (2:34.98) will race in the 800 finals.
Lebron, who placed in Thursday's pole vault and triple jump, totaled 24 ½ points in her two days of work.
