No.11 Chaps sweep past Milwaukee ATC

The 2023 Sophomore Chaps
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 No. 11 College of DuPage posted a pair of come-from-behind victories to sweep fellow N4C and D3 foe Milwaukee Area TC on Sophomore Day on Wednesday.
 
COD, now 32-13 overall, takes on D2's No. 10-ranked team Madison on Thursday.
 
COD honored its two-year players in a pregame announcement. The players recognized were: Sebastian Edenhofer, Kyle Fenner, David Marshall Joe Titone, Justin Lane, Tyler Cwik, A.J. Taylor, Joe Seiber, Joe Cosenza, Luke Schwab, Trey Braun, Ryan Pickell, Jason Cousineau, Evan Ryan, Michael Betancourt, Josh Bennema, Will Wojtasiak, and Cris Villwock.
 
Game 1: Chaps 6, Milwaukee Area TC 4
  • Trailing 4-2, COD scored four runs in the sixth for the come-from-behind victory
  • Joe Cosenza put the Chaps on the board with a solo homer in the fourth
  • Kyle Fenner scored on a first-and-third situation in the fifth and COD trailed 4-2
  • The Chaps loaded the bases, courtesy of three walks with two outs, setting the tone for their rally
  • Fenner delivered a two-run single that scored Cosenza and Filip Milatovic
  • David Marshall followed with a two-run double that brought in Jake Pauley and Fenner
  • Starter RHP Josh Culbertson struck out five, walked four and allowed three runs in five innings
  • Reliever Evan Ryan earned the win in his one inning of relief
  • Ryan gave up two hits, one run, struck out one and walked one
  • Closer Ryne Willard earned the save in the seventh, striking out two and allowing one hit
  • Fenner was the only Chap with a two-hit game
  • Fenner was credited with four stolen bases
 
Game 2: Chaps 6, Milwaukee Area TC 5
  • RHP Brady Friend gutted out a complete-game victory
  • The freshman scattered nine hits and allowed five runs, four earned
  • Friend earned the victory by retiring 10 straight batters — five groundouts and five flyouts — and 12 of the final 13 Stormers
  • COD trailed 4-0 entering its half of the third
  • David Marshall's sac fly to center scored A.J. Taylor (walk) and two batters later, Aden Aukand's RBI single scored Kyle Fenner (single) in the third
  • The Chaps tied the game at 4 in the fourth
  • Taylor's one-out double drove in Trey Braun
  • Two batters later, Marshall tied the game at 4-4 with a single that brought in Taylor
  • Cosenza led off the fifth with a monster shot off the left-field scoreboard on a 3-1 fastball
  • Cosenza leads the team in HRs with eight
  • Jake Pauley made the game 6-4 with a single that scored Quinn Flanagan (single)
