A 27-stroke difference led by Patrick Malm and Luke Pringle and consistent play from Matthew Sims were the keys during the Chaparrals' opening weekend of Fall play during Friday's Highland 36 in Freeport.
 
The Chaps finished with a two-round 613 (320-293) and finished fourth in the 19-team event.
 
Malm and Pringle each fired 1-under-par 71s during second-round of play at Park Hills GC as COD fired a 293 during the final round, the best by a Chaparrals team since 2019.
 
Sims led the way and tied for 13^th with a 152 with rounds of 77 and 75.
 
Malm finished 15^th (82-71_153) and Pringle T16 (83-71_154).
 
Nathan Kwiatkowski also T16 with rounds of 78 and 76.
 
The Chaps are at Aurora on Sept. 3 for the Aurora Double Gun contested at the Aurora CC.

"Our 293 during the second round was particularly impressive, accomplished during the second round of play and of course, during the first meet of the year. Matthew was consistent all day long and Nathan was on point. Patrick and Luke fired tourney-lows during the second round with their 71s. Each of them had it going during the second round. Luke was consistent with 15 pars, two birdies and a bogey, while Patrick had four birdies and an eagle finishing with back-to-back birdies to finish his round.
