The College of DuPage men's golf team traveled to The Oaks Golf Club on Oct. 3 to compete in the Wolfpack Challenge, tying for first place with Southwest Wisconsin Technical College with a team score of 316.
"The Oaks played very tough today," head coach
Jason Hyatt said. "The conditions were great, but the guys battled some difficult pin positions where course knowledge would have definitely helped. Even though none of the guys had seen the course before, they played well with what they could do."
Matthew Sims led the way for the Chaparrals, securing his second career victory with a birdie on the par-5 18th hole and finishing with a 76 (+5).
Patrick Davis birdied his final two holes to finish fifth with a 78 (+7), while
Kyrin Abella used a strong mid-round stretch to card an 80 (+9) and tie for seventh.
Rounding out the scores for COD were
Jack Boehmke in 12th place with an 82 (+11),
Patrick Malm tied for 13th with an 83 (+12),
Ben Holcombe tied for 16th with an 85 (+14), and
Jake Rzeszutek in 26th with a 100 (+29).
"As always, there's room for improvement and the realization that every score counts." Head coach
Jason Hyatt said. "We have to find ways to minimize the damage when we get in trouble. I'm proud of this group, they don't give up. The more we practice, the better we'll get."
The Chaps will be right back in action on Oct. 8 as they participate in the Dual at PrairieView.
