DuPage Golfers Prep for NJCAA Championships

The College of DuPage men's and women's golf teams are set to compete at the 2026 NJCAA Division III Men's and Women's Golf Championships June 2-5 at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York.

The Chaparrals enter nationals following a strong spring season highlighted by tournament victories, individual medalists, and multiple All-Region performances.

On the men's side, DuPage consistently competed among top competition throughout April and May. The Chaparrals placed third at the SXU Invite as the lone junior college program in the field before earning runner-up honors at the Melee at Morris, where Matt Sims tied for first place after shooting even par.

DuPage followed with another third-place finish at the Viking Classic as Nathan Kwiatkowski shot even par across two rounds to finish second overall. The Chaparrals also defeated Rock Valley at the Rock Valley Invite behind medalist Jack Boehmke.

The spring culminated with a Region IV Championship for the Chaparrals at Blackberry Oaks Golf Course. Kwiatkowski earned individual medalist honors after shooting rounds of 74 and 75, while Sims, Patrick Davis and Kyrin Abella all earned All-Region recognition.

"We need to come in levelheaded and stay mentally checked in as much as we can," Davis said. "A lot of us have the physical ability to do what we want to at nationals. If we stay locked in mentally and continue practicing, we feel confident about what we can accomplish."

Head coach Jason Hyatt said the team's focus heading into nationals will center on staying present throughout the tournament.

"One shot, one hole at a time," Hyatt said. "We don't want to look too far ahead or focus on results. We want to concentrate on each round as its own round, and that mindset has been successful for us in the past."

The women's team also enters nationals after an impressive spring campaign that included several strong finishes against four-year competition and regional contenders.

At the Redtail Women's Invite, Isabella Krosse finished second overall, while Aubreye Hyatt placed fourth. DuPage later finished as the top junior college team at the Benedictine Spring Invite.

The Chaparrals continued their momentum at the Viking Women's Classic, where Hyatt captured individual medalist honors after firing rounds of 79 and 76 to finish first overall. DuPage later placed second at the Rock Valley Invite before finishing runner-up at the Region IV Championship, narrowly finishing one stroke behind Joliet Junior College.

Maryssa Zielinski earned runner-up honors at the regional championship after posting back-to-back rounds of 87 to secure All-Region recognition. Krosse placed fourth overall, while Hyatt also earned All-Region honors with a sixth-place finish.

"My mindset going into nationals is to focus on the next shot and not worry about what already happened," Hyatt said. "We just want to keep progressing, make every swing better and stay focused together as a team."

Krosse said handling pressure and staying mentally composed will be key for the Chaparrals on the national stage.

"We know we have the scores and the ability to compete at a high level," Krosse said. "It really comes down to staying in the moment, focusing on every shot and handling the mental side of the game."

Coach Hyatt said the women's team is eager for the opportunity ahead.

"They're focused on the national tournament and ready to compete," Hyatt said. "Now it's about preparing the right way and going out there ready to play our best golf."
