Momentum swings against COD

A pair of goals on consecutive possessions by visiting College of Lake County were the difference makers in the Chaparrals' 2-1 loss in their home opener Wednesday in NJCAA Region 4 women's soccer.

COD (1-2, 1-2 Region 4) competes at Madison on Saturday. Kickoff is 3:15 p.m.

The Chaparrals controlled the tempo and momentum in the first half and their work paid off when Asa Potts found an open Veronica Helma, who one-timed her shot in goal for a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute.

But the visiting Lancers scored goals in the 60th and 63rd minutes — on consecutive possessions — and the Chaps fought back but could not gain the upper-hand.

Corinne Myket had five saves in her 90 minutes. COD had 12 shots on goal, but couldn't find an answer against the Lancers' Giselle Mata.
