Cullen Kleinsasser and
Jason Sullivan each had RBI extra-base hits in the first inning, but host Joliet answered back with four runs in the first and went on to defeat the Chaparrals 6-3 in Region 4 baseball Tuesday afternoon.
The Chaps (11-15, 11-9 Region 4) returns home Thursday afternoon against Kankakee (24-5, 13-2). First pitch is 3 p.m.

- Matt McBrien delivered a one-out double to right in the first
- Two batters later, Kleinsasser drove in McBrien on a liner to center
- Sullivan then responded with a triple to center and COD led 2-0
- COD had just four hits for the remainder of the game, all singles
- Matthew Betancourt earned the other RBI for the Chaps, a two-out single to center that scored AJ Fulscher (single) in the eighth
- Betancourt threw out two on stolen base attempts
- RHP Jim Traficanti (1-2) earned the start, throwing six innings and giving up nine hits, five runs (all earned) and striking out four without issuing a walk
- Joey Vandermeir threw two innings of two-hit relief
- McBrien and Betancourt each had two hits
