Andretti Team includes Chaps' LB Brady Koers

Keep an eye on Sunday's 109th edition of the Indianapolis 500. This year's race includes a College of DuPage connection.

Brady Koers, a freshman redshirt linebacker for the Chaparrals, is a pit crew member for Marco Andretti, who qualified for "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.''

Koers, a Plainfield, Ind., native, is the son of long-time Andretti Global member Andrew Koers. Brady's responsibility is an over-the-wall inside tire changer and it will be his second straight year working with Team Andretti.

Andretti, grandson of racing legend and 1969 Indy winner Mario Andretti and son of long-time driver Michael Andretti, will start from the 29th position on the grid in the No. 98 MAPEI / CURB Honda after qualifying in last-chance qualifying May 18.

According to IndyCar, the crew will change four Firestone tires, add 18.5 gallons of Speedway E85R and make win adjustments in less than 10 seconds. It's common for pit crew members to work with athletic trainers during the week for peak performance and to prevent injuries.

Chaps associate head coach Trevor Cipriano said Koers balanced much of the past month working with Team Andretti and with spring practice for the four-time defending NJCAA champion Chaparrals.

"Brady is a focused young man who can balance a lot of things that you wouldn't see most 19-year-olds handle,'' Cipriano said. "It's pretty incredible that he's a part of something this big.''
