Turner named Assistant Coach of the Year

Floyd Turner, who has laid the groundwork for COD's masterful weights program, is this year's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches of America (USTFCCCA) NJCAA Division III men's assistant coach of the year.

Turner was honored for his work with the men's team. He also coaches the women's weights program.

COD, which earlier this month won its fifth consecutive men's team title and the first women's title in three seasons, capitalized on its depth in the weights for the team title.

The Chaps earned a total of 42 points in the shot put, discus and hammer throw for the men. Sophomore Sterling Sawicki earned the NJCAA title in the hammer and finished second in the shot. Fellow hammer thrower Tayo Taiwo finished second. John Tarpeh was third in the discus.

Turner also helped decathletes Anthony Urban (fourth place) and Jacob Gange (fifth place), who competed in the shot, discus and javelin in their 10-event, two-day endeavor.

COD's women's team scored 18 points in weight events, led by NJCAA hammer champion Teegan Roach.

This is the second time Turner has been recognized nationally by the USTFCCCA. He and Mallory Domiguez were named co-coach of the year in 2024.
