Sophomore Nathan Kwiatkowski played his way to an even-par 72 during Tuesday's opening round of the NJCAA Division III men's golf championship in Chautauqua, N.Y.
 
Kwiatkowski stands four shots off the lead on the par-72, 6,559-yard Chautauqua GC.
 
The Chaps totaled 306 and are third in the 11-team field. Defending champion Sandhills leads at 2-under 286. Georgia Military is second, four shots behind the Sandhills.
 
Sophomore Sam Durkin is 10^th after his 75 and sophomore Anthony Regimand is 22^nd with a 79. Luke Pringle fired an 80 and Matt Sims shot 82.
 
Sandhills' Wyatt Beaver is the first-round leader, firing a 4-under-par 68.
