College of DuPage Athletic Director
Ryan Kaiser has named Sydney Heinrich as the new head coach of the softball program, bringing collegiate coaching experience, a passion for student-athlete development, and firsthand experience competing at the community college level.
Heinrich joins the Chaparrals after coaching at Wheaton College, Wheaton Academy, and various travel softball programs. At Wheaton Academy, she helped lead the Warriors to consecutive regional championship appearances in the program's first two seasons at the varsity level. Â She also served as a graduate assistant with the women's basketball program at North Central College while earning her master's degree in sports leadership.
"Coach Heinrich really had a plan to move this program forward," said College of DuPage Director of Athletics
Ryan Kaiser. "Her maturity as a young professional really stood out to the committee. She got us excited about her vision for COD softball."
A former student-athlete, Heinrich played three seasons at Wheaton College after transferring from Harper College, where she earned Second Team All-Region honors and later served as a captain at Wheaton. A native of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Heinrich earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Wheaton College.
"Coming from a community college myself, I understand the opportunities this level provides," Heinrich said. "I'm excited to work with student-athletes who have a similar mindset and help grow the program."
Heinrich describes her coaching philosophy as competitive and relationship focused.
"I want us to build a culture where student-athletes have each other's backs and compete together as a team," Heinrich said. "Day one is about bringing in student-athletes who want to work hard, enjoy being around one another, and compete."
"I'm excited to get started," Heinrich added. "I'm looking forward to growing this program and competing at a high level."
