A streak that began in 2017 came to a resounding end for the Chaparrals on Tuesday night.
Â
Sophomore
Sierra Gibson led COD with 25 points and three others scored in double figures in a 76-57 victory over visiting Triton in Region 4 women's play.
Â
It marked COD's first win over Triton since its 70-63 victory on Feb. 11, 2017. The 19-point margin of victory was the Chaps' best since 2014 (a 96-47 win).
Â
"The difference between our last game and tonight is confidence,'' head coach
Abigail Talley said. "We played wanting to win, instead of scared to lose. We shared the ball extremely well, worked hard on defense and benefitted from some changes. Happy for our team.''
Â
Iwiyisi Osaghae followed with 14 points,
Savannah Anderson 12 and
Nala Taylor 10 as the Chaps outscored the Trojans 42-26 in the second half.
COD scored all five of its 3-pointers in the second quarter with Gibson and Taylor each scoring a pair of 3s.
Â
Gibson's night included seven steals, four rebounds and three assists as COD totaled 21 steals.
Â
Osaghae earned a double-double with 14 rebounds, along with four steals and three assists.
Â
Anderson grabbed eight rebounds with three steals and Taylor also had three steals.
Â
COD snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 2-4 overall.
