Gibson good for career-high 37 against Elmhurst JV

Sophomore Sierra Gibson played the game of her collegiate life Monday afternoon, scoring 37 points in the Chaparrals' 76-74 loss to visiting Elmhurst JV in women's college basketball at PEC Arena.

It's believed that Gibson's output is the best by a Chaparral since All-American Ali Klaas scored 34 points in the 2000 NJCAA national title game against Anoka-Ramsey. (UPDATE and CORRECTION: COD's Madeline Baillie holds the school record with 43 points vs. Moraine Valley on Nov. 25, 2014.)

Gibson hit 15 of 29 field goal attempts, converted 6 of 11 free throws along with nine rebounds, six assists and three steals in 33 minutes of play.

Megan Martinez added 13 points and Savannah Anderson 12 for COD, now 4-13 overall.

Gibson scored 22 second-half points as the Chaparrals finished 30 of 69 from the field (43.5 percent).

COD, which is at Malcolm X on Thursday and returns home Saturday against Wilbur Wright, faced a deficit through most the game after owning its largest lead at three early in the first quarter.

D Dalipi led Elmhurst with 27 and Shanyce Makwey had 20.
