Chaps open New Year victorious

A 14-0 run to start the second quarter gave the Chaparrals the edge they needed in their 56-22 Region 4 victory over visiting Madison College in NJCAA women's basketball Thursday night at PEC Arena.

The victory snapped COD's five-game losing streak as it improved to 4-10 overall and 4-8 in Region 4 heading into Saturday's game at College of Lake County.

Savannah Anderson led three Chaps in double figures with 15 points along with 12 rebounds. Sarah Topps had 11 points with 12 boards and Megan Martinez had 10 points with two 3-pointers.

COD led the WolfPack 10-9 through 10 minutes of play, then produced its pivotal run over the first six minutes of the second and the game was in-hand for the duration.

Madison's Kayla Staveness led with 14 points.
