Chaps snap streak in 73-69 win

The Chaparrals built a sizeable lead before holding off visiting McHenry County 73-69 in Region 4 women's basketball Thursday night at PEC Arena.
 
COD (3-4, 3-3 Region 4), which ended its three-game losing streak, takes on non-region foe Marshalltown (Iowa) at 11 a.m. Saturday. COD lost at Marshalltown 58-55 on Nov. 9.
 
The Chaps controlled the opening three quarters of play, leading by as many as 16 and up 52-38 entering the fourth quarter.
 
The Scots scrapped back into the game in the final 10 minutes and cut the lead to 71-69 with 14 seconds left.
 
Teegan Roach added a free throw and freshman Kaisji Pryor's free throws with five seconds remaining kept the Chaps out front.
 
Jaylen Zachary led COD with 16 points, and sophomore Makenna Brown earned a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Roach had eight points with 10 boards.
