Chaps contend to the end in 60-55 loss

Sophomore Savannah Anderson led the Chaparrals with 14 points and Autumn Rohde and Megan Martinez each scored nine points in a tight 60-55 loss at Milwaukee Area TC in Region 4 women's basketball Thursday night.

The Chaps trailed 43-41 after three quarters and led 45-43 after a pair of Martinez free throws with 8:09 left in the game. The game remained a one-possession contest and the Chaps got within two of the lead (52-50) after a Martinez 3-pointer with 4:35 to go.

But COD hit just one of five field goals down the stretch and the host Stormers forged ahead for the victory.

"We played hard tonight,'' head coach Abigail Talley said. "That's a talented team we faced."

COD dropped to 7-19, 7-16 Region 4 and the Stormers improved to 13-7, 10-3.

Anderson added 15 rebounds to her effort, her ninth double-double of the season before fouling out with 15 seconds left in the game.

Martinez added eight rebounds in 19 minutes and Rohde earned her nine points in 20 minutes before fouling out midway through the final quarter.

COD is off until Thursday when it plays its regular-season home finale against South Suburban. Tipoff is 5 p.m.
