Chaps get underway with Florida trip

The Chaparrals opened 2024 with their annual Spring Break trip to Cocoa Beach, earning a pair of victories in seven games.
 
COD (2-5 overall) is off until Friday when it makes its home debut against McHenry County. First pitch of the 7-inning doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
 
Kalamazoo Valley 13, Chaparrals 8
  • The Chaps, who led 8-4 after 2 ½ innings, were shut down the remainder of the game
  • Lindsey. Onnezi led offensively, going 3-for-5 with two doubles
  • Cadee Baker also doubled
  • Baker, Onnezi and Olivia Terek each drove in two runs
 
Chaparrals 3, St. Cloud CC
  • Onnezi doubled with an RBI and collected two hits
  • Abigail Collins joined Onnezi with two hits
  • Taylor Gloms added an RBI
  • Grace Walker went the distance, striking out six and giving up only three hits
 
Cornell College JV 11, Chaparrals 5
  • Gloms enjoyed a 3-for-3 outing and drove in two runs with a double and a triple
  • Raena Del Angel had the other extra-base hit (double) and also two RBI
  • Walker and Baker each had multi-hit games
  • On the mound, Gloms struck out four and Walker struck out six

  • Baker's 3-run double capped COD's seven-run second
  • Walker led at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI
  • Gloms totaled two hits with a triple
  • Gloms and Collins each drove in a run

  • COD totaled four hits
  • Earning singles were Baker, Del Angel, Danielle Whitman and Collins
  • The Chaps sent just 18 batters to the plate in a 5-inning game
  • Gloms had one strikeout in two innings

  • COD, which totaled 12 hits, had just one extra-base knock, a double from Del Angel
  • Baker, Whitman, Del Angel, Yuliana Salgado and Collins each had two hits
  • Salgado drove in two runs
  • Waker had two strikeouts in six innings of relief

  • COD grabbed the lead for good with a four-run fourth inning
  • Baker and Whitman each had three hits
  • Gloms drove in two runs and singled
  • Onnezi and Walker each had a double
  • Onnezi and Collins had multi-hit games
