Mennecke drives home walk-off slam

Freshman Mark Mennecke keyed the Chaparrals' efforts over the weekend, delivering a walk-off grand slam that gave COD a 12-2 Game 1 victory Saturday afternoon over Harper in Region 4 baseball.
 
The Chaps defeated Moraine Valley 10-7 on Friday, then split its doubleheader Saturday against Harper.
 
COD takes a 6-7 overall record into the week and is scheduled to play South Suburban on Tuesday. First pitch is 3 p.m. at COD (weather permitting).
 
Chaparrals 10, Moraine Valley 7
  • RHP A.J. McEneany earned the victory, throwing 3 innings of relief
  • He struck out five, walked just two, gave up two runs (none earned) and allowed only one hit
  • Trailing 5-2, the Chaps broke through with two runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and four in the eighth
  • In the sixth, three straight singles from Mark Mennecke, Aden Aukland and Troy Vosburgh set the tone
  • The two-run seventh featured just one hit and brought eight to the plate
  • Mennecke earned a bases-loaded walk and Aukland added an RBI-single
  • Aukland led at the plate, going 4-for-5 with 3 RBI
  • Mennecke had two hits, scored two runs and drove in three runs
  • Jack Wade had an RBI-triple in the eighth
Game 1: Chaparrals 12, Harper 2 6 innings
  • Mennecke delivered a walk-off grand slam in the sixth for the early victory
  • COD grabbed control with a six-run third inning, thanks to four hits and two Harper errors
  • Wade connected on an RBI-double that drove in Anthony Titone
  • Aukland's one-out, RBI-triple scored Filip Milatovic, who reached on an RBI-single
  • Wade led with a 4-for-4 effort and three runs scored
  • Mennecke added an RBI ground-out in the fourth
  • RHP AJ Burnett earned the win, throwing five innings with four strikeouts and one walk with four hits

  • Harper built a 5-1 lead through six innings
  • COD scored three in the seventh on two hits
  • Wade and Milatovic each doubled
  • Reliever Ryan Sigale threw three innings, allowing just one run on three hits
