Defending champs end Chaps' season

The Region 4 softball champion Chaparrals ended their season Tuesday afternoon as top-ranked and defending NJCAA champion North Dakota State College of Science defeated the Chaps 7-4 and 12-0 in the Great Lakes District playoff.
 
The Chaps finished 12-19 overall with a second consecutive regional title under head coach Barry Froehle.
 
Game 1: ND Science 7, Chaparrals 4
  • Lindsey Onnezi led the way, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, driving in two runs and scoring twice
  • Onnezi hit an RBI-double, scoring Danielle Whitman, who doubled, and came around to score on Olivia Terek's RBI-single in the second, tying the game at 2-2
  • COD went ahead 4-2 on Onnezi's RBI-double and later scored when she stole home after previously stealing third
  • Science pitchers Emma Johnson and Grace Folkema combined to strikeout 17 batters
 
Game 2: ND Science 12, Chaparrals 0 5 innings
  • COD was held to just two hits — a Walker single in the third and Glom's single in the third
  • Science totaled 12 strikeouts
