Chaps don't let up in 59-19 victory

Cailey Salerno led COD with 13 points and Jaylen Zachary added 10, but it was the Chaparrals' effort on defense that gave them a resounding 59-19 Region 4 victory over host Harper on Tuesday night.

The Chaps improved to 8-9 overall and 8-7 Region 4 entering Saturday's road contest at Wilbur Wright (0-13, 0-11). COD returns to PEC Arena on Tuesday against Madison College.

The Chaps forced 42 turnovers and relayed that stat into 37 points off turnovers, icing the game early. COD built a 10-1 lead through the opening quarter and led 20-14 at halftime.

The final 20 minutes of play belonged entirely to coach Abigail Talley's team, which outscored the Hawks 39-5.

The 19 points allowed matches the best defensive output in Talley's three years at the helm, tying a 67-19 effort over Richard Daley in the 2023-24 season opener.

Salerno hit 5-of-8 from the field with a pair of 3s. She also grabbed seven rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench.
